The Sounds of Joy

"It's a well-known fact that the wife of preacher C.H. Spurgeon, Susannah Spurgeon, suffered from physical disabilities that grew progressively worse year by year. Finally she reached the point where she could no longer make the transatlantic journey with her husband by ship. Then, not only did she have to endure her painful affliction, but she also had to deal with Dr. Spurgeon's absence for six to nine months at a time. Read here what she wrote one dark, cold, lonely evening when she was sitting alone (it seemed she was always alone now) beside her fire:

The fire was letting loose the imprisoned music
from the old oak's inmost heart. [As] the fierce
tongues of the flames came to consume [the log's
hardened] callousness...the fire wrung from him a
song and a sacrifice.

Oh! Thought I, when the fire of affliction draws
songs of praise from us, then indeed...our God is
glorified!...We [would] give forth no melodious
sounds were it not for the fire which kindles round
us and releases tender notes of trust in Him...
Singing in the fire!...Let the furnace be heated
seven times hotter than before! "

Boating

-*4th of July*-

For the 4th of July we gathered at C and Katie's house. Katie's family, Uncle and Aunt and their kids, and Grandma came as well. We had a wonderful picnic supper, with meats from the grill, salads, fresh bread, chips, lemonade and cupcakes for dessert later. It was so much fun! I got to play football with the guys. Later we decided that neither team won and that it was a tie. :) After supper we went to our church for our regular Wednesday night service. After the service we all went down to sit by the lake and watch the amazing fireworks!! It was a wonderful time with family and friends, and Lord willing we'll be able to do it again next year.

<---The fruit pizza that I put the fruit on. :) I had a lot of fun.

<---Katie made cupcakes for the picnic! :) They were really yummy :) When she counted them before we went to church, there were 94 of them.

-Fireworks-

-off with the old, on with the new-

Yesterday afternoon Ana, Katie, and I went and started painting our church basement fellowship/Sunday school room. It was sort of a pinkish color, and we decided that we weren't in the "pink" mood anymore. :) So we decided to color it tan. It took most of yesterday afternoon and evening, (I had to leave in the evening for a softball game, but Ana, Katie, C, and E worked on it) and most of today. After dinner I went back to church and practiced my piano for a little over an hour. (Man, do my arms and figures hurt!) But we are finished!! Wahoo!! So that's good. We didn't get a lot of pictures from it because our hands were full of paint, so we got before and after and maybe a couple during pictures. So here are the couple pictures that we did happen to get.

---Doughnuts! And my Frappichino in my way-neato-cup. I didn't have coffee like Ana and Katie so I decided to put my Frappichino in a mug like theirs. :)
